Watch Out For These Warning Signs of Foundation Problems Within Your Home
You keep the lawn green and the outside of your home nicely painted, but when was the last time you checked around your property for signs of foundation problems? Your foundation is the very structure on which your house was built upon, so you should regularly be on the lookout for any of these signs of foundation problems. Spotting them early on could indicate something serious that needs to be addressed right away.
Indoor Signs of Foundation Problems
Some of these warnings are pretty easy to overlook, so pay special attention to:
Don’t forget to check the posts and concrete supports under your basement if you have a crawlspace (or hire someone to do this for you).
Outdoor Signs of Foundation Problems
Walk outside to each corner of your house and visually check to see if the walls are even. Use a level to double check and make sure. If you see any bulges or curves in the foundation or on a concrete wall, then that is a strong sign that the soil is putting pressure on the walls by either expanding or contracting (due to moisture or heat).
If you see any flaking or chipping in the concrete of your foundation, poke it with a screwdriver. If the screwdriver is able to take a chunk out of the concrete, then this is a sign that the concrete is wearing down and you need an inspection.
